Beehiiv wired Gemini's image generation straight into its own editor. You're writing a post, you need a thumbnail, you ask for it right there, and it shows up in the same window you're already typing in. No tab, no download, no re-upload.
I never left Claude to get it, either. I asked for the thumbnail in the same conversation I was already drafting the post in, and it came back ready to place.
That's the whole feature in one paragraph. Here's why it's worth more than it sounds like, if you write a newsletter.
The thumbnail problem this actually solves
A newsletter’s thumbnail is the single highest-leverage image in the whole email. It’s what shows up in the feed, the preview, what decides whether someone opens the article before they’ve read a word of it. And it’s also the image writers skip most, because generating a good cover image used to mean:
stopping mid-draft,
opening a separate image tool,
writing a prompt,
waiting on a render,
downloading it,
and bringing it back to paste in.
Most people don’t do that extra lap for every post. They either reuse a template forever or skip the thumbnail entirely.
How Beehiiv actually has it
Beehiiv didn’t train its own image model. It wired Gemini’s image generation directly into its own MCP layer, the same protocol connection that already lets AI read and write inside the platform. So a request like “make me a thumbnail for this post” doesn’t need a separate app anymore.
It’s just another tool call Claude (or any AI) makes inside the conversation, and the image lands straight back in the draft.
I tell Claude what I want, Claude drafts it through Beehiiv’s MCP, I review, I publish. I never leave the one window I started in.
Why this matters if you write a newsletter
This isn’t a generic “AI got easier” story.
It’s Beehiiv looking at the two images every newsletter writer skips most - the thumbnail and the in-body break-up images - and removing the exact reason people skip them: having to leave the conversation they’re already having with their AI to go get one.

What to actually do with this
Next time you draft a post for Beehiiv, ask for the thumbnail in the same Claude conversation.
The excuse that used to make thumbnails or images seem like a lot of work, is gone. It’s the same conversation, one more ask (or you can even automate it with a claude skill so claude just does it for you!
