Why No One’s Reading Your Posts

Social media right now is an attention deficit economy

If no one’s reading your posts, this might be why:

They’re a wall of text.
No line breaks.
Has no formatting.

↳ And no one has time to decode your paragraphs.

It is no longer a content game
It’s about how well you can capture attention!

You either guide the reader to read thru → Or you lose them.

WHY FORMATTING MATTERS

Formatting = visual hierarchy.

It tells the brain what to read first. What to skip. What matters.

Even your best ideas flop if your layout screams:

“Hi I don’t care enough to make this easy to read.”

Here’s how I do it (and how you can do it too):

❥ Short punchy opener

→ Never waste the first line.

If your first line is vague, long, or boring… you’ve already lost.

Examples:

• “If you aren’t doing outbound replies, your account will plummet 📉”

• “Unfollow inactive accounts. Here’s why it matters.”

❥ Arrows, bullets, symbols to guide flow

→ They make the post look organized before people even read it.
→ They also help your post stand out while scrolling.

Symbols I rotate:

→ ↳ ✦ ❥ ➤ ☑ ☒ ✓ ▪ ▸ ⤷ You can find them on coolsymbol.com

Format like this:

 Start replying to smaller accounts 
  → Engage with people who care about you 
  → Stop journaling and start sparking conversation 

Can’t you tell already by the way I formatted this newsletter? Isn’t it easier to read?

❥ Line breaks = attention resets

→ Every few lines, give the eyes a break.
This keeps people scrolling (your post)

Especially on mobile.

Don’t do this:

Here’s a big block of text with no visual relief and even though I have great ideas, people will scroll past because this looks like too much effort to read. One of my ideas is to have dinner tonight then go down to the beach and end up on a drive to nowhere while listening to music on my own with nothing to do.

Check this out:

I have an idea…
→ I might have dinner tonight
→ Then head to the beach
→ Go on a drive to nowhere
→ Just me, the road, music, and no plans

You actually wanted to read this version right?

HOW TO FIX YOUR FORMATTING RIGHT NOW

Ask yourself:

☑ Is the first line scroll-stopping?
☑ Did I space it out for mobile readers?
☑ Are there visual cues like symbols or bullets?
☑ Did I stack key points instead of clumping them together?
☑ Does it look easy to read at a glance?

If not… edit it.

✓ Start writing with formatting in mind, not as an afterthought.
