How I Built a Fitness App in 2 Hours with No Coding Skills (and How You Can Too)

I had a problem.

None of the fitness apps out there were doing what I needed.

I was tracking my 75 Hard challenge, but every fitness app I tried was either missing something, ugly, expensive or trying to upsell me nonsense I didn’t ask for.

So I did what any impatient, slightly unhinged person would do:

I built my own.

No coding background.
No fancy setup.
Just me, ChatGPT, and a tool called Cursor.

And guess what? …. You can too.

→ What’s vibe-coding?

It’s real. And it’s way more fun than traditional dev work or learning how to code.

Think: Being able to build apps real-time by talking to your own personal developer instead of staring at or trying to figure out a million lines of code for 3 weeks.

STEP ➊ Brainstorm with AI.

Throw your idea at GPT (or any AI of your choice)

Ask it:
✦ Does this solve a specific problem?
^{↳ If yes, what kind of person is actively looking for this solution?}

✦ Would someone actually use this… or just say it’s “cool”?
^{↳ Forces you to spot fake validation.}

✦ What would make this a must-have instead of a nice-to-have?
^{↳ Pushes toward feature clarity, not bloat.}

✦ What are people currently using to solve this?
^{↳ Helps you uncover competitors and friction points.}

✦ If this already exists, why isn’t it working well enough for people?
^{↳ Great for carving your edge.}

Market research is important. (Unless you’re building something just for yourself or for practice.. eitherway… let’s go 👇🏽)

STEP ➋ Let AI write the starter code.

Tell GPT what you want, what you want it to look like and let it build the bones and the structure.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. You’re not shipping to Apple. Yet.

Here are some of my first prompts:

Even asked it to pull colors from my X branding just by attaching a screenshot.

Once GPT understands what you want, it’ll write out the code for you.

STEP ➌ Take your code to Cursor.

Now… This is where the fun begins. Once you have the basic foundation, and have your code loaded in Cursor, start talking to Cursor AI like it’s your personal developer that’s a coding genius.

PS. If you don’t know how, just ask GPT.
• “How do I take this code and put it in Cursor?”
• “How do I preview the code?”
It will walk you through exactly what to do step-by-step.

Tell Cursor what you want (could be as simple or as complex as you need):

↳ “Make the background light beige.”

↳ “Add a button that says ‘Day Complete.’”

↳ “Date picker isn't working. It's showing Day 1 when i picked yesterday's date.”

If something isn’t working for you, or you’re getting an error;

• → SCREENSHOT IT

• → Put it in Cursor AI chat

• → Write what went wrong

• → Tell it what you expected
  (Be as specific as possible The more context you give it, the better the fix.)

• → Ask it to find out what went wrong and fix it

Some examples of what i’ve asked it when something went wrong or did not work as I expected (with screenshots):

✨ ^{Weight is still not showing in the summary. Fix that please.}
✨ ^{Lets make the photo preview on the summary a square. The long rectangle looks ugly... Or we could technically have the photo beside the summary kinda like on a side column because most photos will be in portrait orientation anyway. What do you think?}

Just TALK to it.
Tell it what to do, what to build, what to change…
…as you go.

I’ve got a fitness tracker that works exactly how I want it to.

No useless features
No weird ads

No one asking me to pay $69/mo for an app that only has half the functionalities I need.

Just a clean design and the features I actually care about.
