Powerful Lessons about Building a Community You should Know Early On

Not everything is about going viral. Take notes on what actually matters.

HEY YOU šŸ‘‹šŸ½
WELCOME IN AGAIN
I didn’t start out trying to build a community.

At first, I just wanted to share ideas, learn from smart people, and maybe connect with a few people who made it.

But somewhere along the way, something clicked: I was making real FRIENDS — a community 🧔

Here are the real stuff building a real presence on X has taught me (the stuff I wish I knew when I started):

1. FRIENDSHIPS > FOLLOWER COUNTS

The most valuable part of a social media platform isn’t how many people follow you. It’s the few who show up, reply, support every single day.

Those are the people who matter. Prioritize them.

Follower count literally doesn’t mean anything. It’s the relationships you build that will propel you forward in your ā€œgrowthā€ journey.

More you network → More opportunities you’re creating for yourself in the long run.

2. SUPPORT OTHERS WITHOUT EXPECTATIONS

Not everything you do needs to come with a "what do I get from this?"

Lift people up. Hype up their work. Show appreciation for their efforts. Give freely.

It always comes back around — just not always from who you expect. But trust me, Karma is real (she’s my best friend šŸ˜‰)

3. DON’T SHY AWAY FROM SHARING YOUR EXPERTISE

Even if it feels small or obvious to you, someone out there needs it.

Whether it's a post, a reply or something you share in a Space; your knowledge matters.

Your experience might be the thing that unblocks something for someone else who’s struggling with the same thing you were before you figured it out.

4. STAY AUTHENTIC & TRUE TO YOURSELF

There’s no secret formula for being liked online.

Just be the loudest version of you.

People can spot fake from a mile away — and they’re tired of curated perfection. Take advantage of the fact that you can show yourself off through your posts and interactions.

5. REAL RELATIONSHIPS START WITH COMMENTS (& SPACES)

You don’t build community from a distance.

It happens in relatable posts, heartfelt comments, DMs, audio spaces, late-night livestreams & random convos that go deeper than ā€œGreat post!ā€ and ā€œLFGā€

6. CHOOSE CONSISTENCY OVER "VIRAL"

That one-off VIRAL post might feel great. But real momentum and growth comes from showing up. Almost all ā€˜large’ content creators are grateful they didn’t go viral early on.

ā„ Consistency builds foundation
ā„ Foundation builds trust
ā„ Trust builds credibility
ā„ Credibility builds a reputation that cannot be denied.

7. WRITE LIKE YOU’RE TALKING TO PEOPLE

Don’t write for the algorithm. Write for the human that’ll be reading it.
Make me feel like you’re saying something to me directly — not ā€˜tweeting’ into the void.

Let your voice, your personality shine through.
That’s what humans connect with.

8. PROTECT YOUR PEACE

Social media moves fast. Drama is endless. And the pressure to be "on" 24/7 is real.

But your ā€˜peace’ is Priceless.
You don’t owe anyone your time, your energy, or your engagement. You hold the power to choose who & what you interact with or allow into your headspace.

Don’t be afraid to be generous with the block button.
It’s there for a reason

And most importantly:
Find YOUR people. That’s your community.
It won’t look like anyone else’s. And that’s the point.

See you in the comments ā™”

That’s it for this edition of Explained Without Fluff.
See you on the next one.
