Why don’t people share your helpful posts?

You can write something genuinely useful.

People read it.

Maybe they like it.

Maybe they even bookmark it.

And then, the post you spent hours on just… dies.

→ Because it wasn’t shareable.

Helpful gets you respect.

When people repost / share your posts, it gets you organic reach and access to their audience.

So let’s take a look at what makes people share other people posts!

🚨 OKAY BACK TO TOPIC 🚨

THE PROBLEM

Most “helpful” posts are written like a mini lesson or ‘advice’ for everyone in a neutral tone

That creates one reaction:

☑ dope. this was helpful!

But “nice” doesn’t get forwarded.

People share things when it does at least one of these:

  • → makes them look smart

  • → helps a friend quickly

  • → puts words to something they’ve felt

  • → is so simple it’s ‘stealable’

  • → says the bold thing they won’t say

  • → is absolutely relatable

If your post doesn’t give them a reason to pass it along… it won’t be shared.

EXAMPLE

☒ Helpful but not shared

Here are 5 tips to improve your productivity:

  1. Make a plan

  2. Reduce distractions

  3. Set goals

It’s fine. It’s also… everywhere.

✓ Vs. Shareable

If you’re “busy” but not moving, you’re drowning in friction.
Here are 3 tiny fixes that save you 60 minutes today:

  • → delete one app shortcut

  • → set a 10-minute start timer

  • → write the first sentence, not the whole plan

Send this to the friend who keeps saying they’re overwhelmed.

Why there is a high chance of it being shared or reposted:

→ one strong punch line
→ tiny actions
→ a “friend tag” without begging
→ it feels sendable

HOW YOU CAN CREATE

1) Write like you’re helping ONE specific person

Not “everyone.”
Someone with a real problem.

Instead of:
→ “How to grow on X”

Write:
→ “If you’re getting likes but no followers, do this.”

Specific problems get forwarded. Generic advice gets ignored.

2) Add a line that feels like a truth people can’t say out loud

Shareable content often has one sentence that goes:

→ “FINALLY someone said it.”

Example:

One sharp sentence can carry the whole post.

3) Give it a “who this is for” tag (without being cringe)

This is the easiest share trigger.

Example:

It’s not begging. It’s making it obvious who they should send it to.

Quick Break for my other sponsors of the day

Check out what Viktor and Attio are offering for you guys:

Your next great hire lives in Slack.

Viktor is an AI coworker that connects to your tools and ships real work. Ask Viktor to pull a report, build a client dashboard, or source 200 leads matching your ICP. Most teams hand over half their ops within a week.

Here's how I use Attio to run my day.

Attio's AI handles my morning prep — surfacing insights from calls, updating records without manual entry, and answering pipeline questions in seconds. No searching, no switching tabs, no manual updates.

4) Cut the “teacher voice”

Teacher voice makes people read. Friend voice makes people share because you’re showing care.

Teacher voice:
→ “In today’s world…”

Friend voice:
→ “You’re doing too much. Do this instead.”

5) Make the formatting scroll-proof

Sharing starts with reading. If your post is a wall of text… they won’t even read it.

Use:

  • → short lines

  • → line breaks

  • → bullets with actions

  • → bold punch lines

Make it effortless to scan so they feel other people can get the info in a short amount of time too!

YOUR CHALLENGE

Take your last helpful post and rewrite it like this:

☑ Start with a punch line (one sentence)
☑ Add 3 action bullets (real actions)
☑ Add 1 template/script (copyable)
☑ End with: “Send this to the friend who ____.”

Then repost it. Same idea. Different packaging.
